  2. Waitangi Treaty Grounds: Visit the historic site where the Treaty of Waitangi, New Zealand’s founding document, was signed in 1840. Explore the museum and grounds.
  3. Russell: Take a ferry to Russell, the country’s first capital. Stroll through the charming town, visit the Pompallier Mission, and enjoy the views from Flagstaff Hill.
  4. Cape Reinga: Although a bit north of the Bay of Islands, it’s worth the trip to see the iconic lighthouse and the meeting point of the Tasman Sea and the Pacific Ocean.
  5. Hole in the Rock: Take a boat tour to see the famous Hole in the Rock at Piercy Island. Many tours also include dolphin watching.
